Welcome to 3/4C   2022-2023!

Happy New Year!

Our new topic for this term is Ancient Greece.

The children took part in a fantastic Stunning Start with some Olympic game-based activities, a 'Story Whoosh' and some art. In the Story Whoosh, all children learnt about the myth of 'Pandora's Box' by taking part in some drama. They had the choice of coming up to become a character for a small chunk of the story, and some even added in their own speech. All children took part and it was such a success that we forgot to take any photos!

In our art session, the children used a range of materials to make themselves into a Greek god or goddess, using the book 'Mythologica' as inspiration. The art that was created was stunning!

Design and Technology

In DT in term 2, we have been exploring how rollercoasters are designed and have looked at how we could create our own for Disneyland, Paris. We started by using strips of paper to design a basic rollercoaster.

We then used strips of card which we cut and folded to create corners and curves.

Finally, we used paper plates and straws to practise other ways to create a rollercoaster for a ping-pong ball to roll down - hopefully some final rollercoasters will be completed soon!

Here are some of our leaflets persuading holiday-makers to visit France:

What a fantastic term we had last term introducing our topic of 'France'.

A 'Stunning Start' introduced the children to French food and virtual tour around Paris. Most children tried the brie but there were definitely some mixed reviews!

The children then showed cooperation by working in teams to create an Eiffel Tower out of straws and tape. We looked at how the Eiffel Tower was built and they used the structure as a guide to make their tower stand up straight.

At the end of term, the children wrote some brilliant Haiku poetry based on the topic of France. Although they are only 3 lines long, the children had to work hard to make sure the number of syllables in each line was correct: 5 on the first line, 7 on the second line and 5 on the third line! Check out some of these great Haikus:
