WELCOME TO THE SPRING TERM!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's the Spring Term and 6H have got...

JUNGLE FEVER!

Our day began by feasting our eyes on an iconic documentary about the world's jungles, narrated by David Attenborough. We then used this new learning to decide whether a host of statements about jungles were true or false. Did you know that over 7% of the earth is covered by jungles? Also, there are over TWO MILLION species of insects in the Amazon Jungle. The one that really got our attention was the Velvet Worm - this little creature (well, its ancestors) walked the land during the era of the dinosaurs!

Next up, we embarked on a jungle quiz! General jungle knowledge, jungle animals, jungle themed films and jungle noises put our thinking caps to the test. Check out the scoreboard featuring the team names. Competitive? Us? Okay, just a little bit...

Later in the day, we indulged in a whole afternoon of jungle art! First, we painted strips of paper, which will be pieced together to create a notorious jungle animal; watch this space!

Afterwards, we researched jungle animals and after selecting one to study, we zoomed in on a particular part of its body. Our oil pastel creations were out of this world!

This term, an exciting literary adventure awaits! Our class text is...

Fred, Con, Lila and little Max's plane is on the way to Manaus when it falls out of the sky. Now, lost in the Amazon rainforest, they must figure out the basics of survival: water, shelter, food. Do they wait for rescue, or find a way to rescue themselves?

'The book was so detailed, that it felt like I was in the rainforest with the three valiant children; I could hear the beating sounds of the jungle and the birds cawing!' (Emilia)

'The book was so intense; I was always determined to read on.' (Will)

'As I read this wonderful book, it felt like I was one of the children in the rainforest.' (Isaac)

'This book was marvellous and as someone who wants to be an author when they are older, it is very inspiring!' (Eliza)

WELCOME TO THE AUTUMN TERM!

WELCOME TO TEAM 6H 22-23!

As you can see, we are in the trenches this term! Our brand new topic is a History one - The Great War!

When we strolled into the classroom on our first day back, a mysterious set of clues awaited us...

We were able to identify some key dates: 1914 and 1916, along with headlines such as 'WAR DECLARED BY ALL.' We also spotted some interesting photos: a soldier, a Royal Christmas card and a football team...

After deciphering the clues, the 6H historians were united in their guesses - our topic is World War One!

During the rest of the day, we turned our attention to a task of WW1 History True or False, sewing poppies and creating wartime silhouette paintings.

In English, we have used our senses to imagine what it might have been like to be in the trenches, during WW1. As a class, using our literary tools, we composed a Perfect Paragraph. Have a read...

The 6H Team went on tour to King Henry VIII school in Coventry! The learning and fun had by all was immense. Check it out...
