Mrs Spiller/Mrs Harrison - Year 3 & 4

Welcome to 3/4SH ~ 2022-2023!

Our class read

In our 'Right To Read' session in class, we read a short extract from the beginning of this book, Saving Winslow by Sharon Creech. We all agreed that we enjoyed it and were intrigued to read more, hence I purchased the book as our class read.

Synopsis

Louie doesn't have the best luck when it comes to nurturing small animals - not even lightning bugs, worms or goldfish. So when his father brings home a sickly newborn little donkey, he's determined to save him. Taking care of him helps Louie feel closer to brother Gus, who has just left home. Everyone worries that Winslow won't survive, especially Louie's quirky new friend, Nora. But as his bond with Winslow grows, surprising events prove that this fragile donkey - and Louie - are stronger than anyone could have imagined.

Summer Term 2023

Wow, can you believe we are in our summer term of Year 3 and 4 already?!

We arrived back at school after the Easter holidays super excited to find out all about our brand new topic - LONDON! We were so excited to discover later in the term we will be going on a trip to London, for a river cruise and a ride on the London Eye!

Lots of fun activities were planned for our Stunning Start. We had a London themed word search to complete, and then we headed outside to the playground on a clue hunt about London landmarks. After break, we designed our own cones so they would be ready for a lovely afternoon treat - chips! Check out the photos of our fabulous designs below! After lunch, we used London Underground maps for an interactive journey through London, visiting some of the great attractions along our way. We also had time to get into groups for a game of London Bingo! Following this, we got creative when making our own London Eye pod to go on display in the classroom.

Spring Term 2023

Our Community Tea

Thank you to everyone that came along to our community tea on Tuesday. The children and staff had a brilliant time. 3/4SH really enjoyed making all the decorations and cakes - we hope you enjoyed eating them! All the children worked very hard to make it a success!
Well done 3/4SH!

3/4SH were welcomed back this term with a stunning start all about Ancient Greece! The children were very excited to see a Medusa on the classroom wall and to take part in lots of activities.

We started the day finding out about the first Olympics and then took part in our own mini Olympic games. We then immersed ourselves in a drama, acting out the story of 'Pandora's Box'! It was lots of fun and very exciting! We finished the day with art, where we transformed ourselves into Greek Gods or mythical characters after looking at the book Mythologica.

In English, we have started a character description based on Jason, a Greek man, using lots of adjectives, similes and prepositional phrases.
We are all very interested in finding out more over the next term!

Autumn Term 2022

As you can see, it has been a very busy start to the new term! We started our new Geography topic, 'France.' Our second day back we experienced French cuisine in our French café, whilst enjoying a virtual tour of Paris. The children were given the opportunity to taste a variety of different foods such as croissants, brie, grape juice and other delicious delights! We described and rated each food, with croissants being the favourite and brie being the least favourite.

Next, it was time for a quiz and making our own French flags! We then took part in fantastic structure challenge, when the children worked in teams to build an Eiffel Tower model. The structures were strong and sturdy after finding out about strong shapes! To complete our day, we worked on a class picture of the Eiffel Tower to be displayed proudly in our classroom! A busy and exciting start to the term.

Look at our fantastic, bright, colourful Eiffel Tower display and some of our French flags.

In art, we have been busy creating Parisian postcards. We looked at how to create different skies with watercolour in the background. We then drew our own Eiffel Tower on top. The postcards have been completed with extra details and are now proudly on our classroom display! We are going on to look at pointillism, studying some great artists and we will have a go at painting our own!

Our Tour of Paris by 3/4SH

Welcome to Paris!

Our first destination is The Louvre. Overlooking streets full of shops and eager tourists, this see-through, glass pyramid holds the world-famous Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. At night, this beautiful building glitters brightly with a thousand lights.

The impressive Eiffel Tower is our next stop. During the day it overlooks the busy capital city. Its' surrounding streets are bustling with happy people exploring. At night, this ancient, metal structure glows like a diamond for miles around.

Flowing through the middle of the city, you will find the River Seine. Rippling through the water, boats pass each other taking you peacefully along. Here you can have a romantic boat ride under a moonlit sky, or ride your bike along the banks of its calming waters.

Our final destination on our tour is The Pantheon. Inside this temple, you will discover sparkling marble floors and a domed roof. With all these amazing places to visit, what are you waiting for?

Christmas Craft afternoon!
